Our St Louis Cemetery Walk-Around Tour is your chance to see both St Louis #1 & 2 cemeteries… from the outside! This tour will give guests a window to New Orleans as it was over the centuries. You’ll learn about the geography of Louisiana and the real reasons for above ground burials. Hint: It’s not because they will float up when it rains. Your guide will also describe and explain the different uses for various tombs found in our cemeteries. At each graveyard you will learn about their famous ‘residents’ and even have a chance to see some of their tombs. All be it, socially distanced outside of the fence or gates. We do recommend bringing selfie sticks for reaching inside the gates and over the taller walls.
The walk between the St Louis #1 and #2 is through the former Red Light District known as Storyville. Along the tour, your guide may describe several details concerning the brothels as well as the origins of Jazz music. We try to keep it clean, but by the nature of the subject, it might be more than what some parent would deem appropriate for very young children.
To be absolutely clear, this tour does not enter the cemetery gates. This is the hand the pandemic has given us. I wish it were a better one. Even though we cannot enter, please think of supporting us, so that we can be here to give full cemetery tours once this pandemic ends. THANK YOU!
